India logs 26,727 fresh Covid-19 cases, 277 deaths in past 24 hours, recovery rate at 97.85%

India recorded 26,727 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 277 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Friday, the country saw a total of 28,246 recoveries in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 97.85 per cent and total recoveries to 3,30,43,144.

District hospitals have average 24 beds per 1 lakh population, Bihar lowest at 6: NITI Aayog report

A Niti Aayog report has said that on an average, a district hospital in India has 24 beds per 1 lakh population, with Puducherry having the highest average of 222 beds and Bihar the lowest of six. The Aayog in a report titled 'Best Practices in the Performance of District Hospitals', said 75 district hospitals across 24 states and union territories emerged as top performers on indicators ranging from availability of beds, medical and paramedical staff, core health and diagnostic testing services to outputs.

Farmers will protest outside houses of BJP-JJP leaders if paddy procurement is delayed: Chaduni

Haryana BKU (Chaduni) chief Gurnam Singh Chaduni on Thursday said that farmers will protest outside the houses of MPs, MLAs and other leaders of the ruling BJP-JJP combine in the state if the government fails to begin paddy procurement on October 1. Chaduni said that the Centre has postponed the paddy procurement from October 1 to October 11.

A senior al-Qaeda leader was killed in a drone airstrike in Syria, Fox News reported citing a US defence official. On September 20, Salim Abu-Ahmad was killed in a US airstrike near Idlib, Syria. Salim was responsible for planning, funding, and approving trans-regional al Qaeda attacks, according to Fox News.

The Supreme Court on Thursday emphasized that roads cannot remain blocked perpetually and asked the Centre what steps has it taken to remove the road blockade by farmers, protesting against three agriculture laws at Delhi borders.
