India logs 41,965 fresh COVID cases, over 33,000 recoveries in 24 hours; active cases rise to 3.78 lakh

India recorded 41,965 new cases of the novel coronavirus, along with 460 deaths due to the infection in the past 24 hours. According to the data shared by the Union Health Ministry on Wednesday, the country saw a total of 33,964 discharges in the last 24 hours, taking the total recovery rate at around 97.53 per cent and total recoveries to 3,19,93,644.

Schools reopening in Delhi, UP, MP, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka today | Check guidelines

The schools, colleges, and other educational institutions across several states, including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and many more will reopen today i.e. on September 1. A few of special protocols are meant to adhere to the government-necessitated coronavirus disease (Covid-19) guidelines. SOPs have been released to ensure the safety of students which include staggered lunch breaks, minimum seating capacity in class, masking and sanitization protocols, etc.

US will continue to conduct drone strikes in Afghanistan if and when needed: Pentagon

The Pentagon will continue to conduct drone strikes against the Islamic State-Khorasan Province (ISIS-K) and others within Afghanistan when necessary even after the permanent withdrawal of the US military presence from the country, said the Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby on Tuesday (local time). The US launched deadly drone strikes against an individual described as an "ISIS-K planner" as well as a suspected suicide car bomber in recent days after the terrorist group claimed responsibility for suicide bombings that killed 13 US service members.

New IT Rules prevent fake news, misuse of freedom of press: Centre tells HC

The Centre has defended the legality of the new Information Technology (IT) Rules before the Delhi High Court, saying that the rules seek to “prevent the misuse of the freedom of press” and protect the citizens from fake news in digital media space which used to be largely unregulated. The Centre, in its counter affidavit filed on a challenge to the constitutional validity of the new IT Rules, has submitted that although the right to freedom of speech and expression, including the freedom of the press, is critical for a vibrant democracy like India, citizens “cannot be treated as passive consumers.”
