Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said that it is time to expand the agriculture sector to a global market for processed food through public-private partnership mode. Addressing a webinar on budget provisions for the farm sector,  he stressed on a need to bring a food processing revolution. He said that the country needs post-harvest revolution or food processing revolution, and value addition in 21st century.

With 15,510 new COVID cases, India's tally crosses 1.11 crore; death toll at 1,57,157

India's COVID-19 tally surpassed 1.11 crore on Monday with 15,510 new infections, while the active cases registered an increase for the fifth consecutive day and were recorded at 1,68,627, according to the Union Health Ministry data. The total coronavirus cases reached 1,11,12,241 in the country, while the death toll rose to 1,57,157 with 106 new fatalities, the data updated at 8 am on Monday showed.

Sensex surges over 500 points in early trade; Nifty tops 14,680

The BSE benchmark Sensex rebounded over 500 points in the opening session on Monday as investors cheered the domestic economy returning to growth in the October-December period after two-quarters of contraction. The 30-share gauge was trading at 49,608.97, showing a gain of 508.98 points or 1.04 per cent in the early session. While the broader NSE Nifty was trading higher by 153.15 points or 1.05 per cent at 14,682.30 in opening deals.

UPA restructuring needed, Pawar should lead alliance: Sanjay Raut

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday said there is a need to restructure the UPA, and the new alliance should be led by a senior leader like Sharad Pawar as many regional parties are not ready to work under the leadership of the Congress. The future of this alliance would depend on the sacrifice and liberality of the Congress, he said. He added that there was no National Democratic Alliance (NDA) left in the country as its allies have quit it, but similarly, the existence of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is not visible as it has very few parties now.

96% people faced drop in earnings during lockdown: Survey

Nearly 96 per cent of the people surveyed under a food rights campaign in Maharashtra faced a drop in their earnings during the coronavirus-induced lockdown last year, claims a social body. Job losses and non-availability of casual work were the key reasons for this, and every fifth respondent was forced to go hungry because of no money to buy food, Mukta Srivastava, the state's convener for the Anna Adhikar Abhiyan, told reporters here on Saturday.
